My First Free Diving Experience

Soo let’s get straight to the point. How was it? It was alright. Why just alright? Just a little frustrated I didn’t get over 4 meters down. My ears started hurting. Equalisation didn’t work anymore. However, I had a lot of fun, really happy i did it and it was kind of a different experience which is cool. I know this takes a lot of practice and it was just my first time (definitely not the last). I’ll get there.

But why free diving though? Well, I always thought it is cool, seeing celebrities do it, underwater photos and stuff but those reasons never convinced me to start free diving yet. It interested me more when a friend (a water sign) hyped me to it. I don’t know why but i think it’s a co-water-sign calling, the Cancer in me (not the disease though, that sounded really wrong, *knocks on wood. But u all know what i mean).

Soo what was the process? First, Robert (the instructor) introduced freediving (But with very limited time, depth and distance). Soo of course the basics, equipment overview and most important safety. He demonstrated the proper way to breathe and how to fill my stomach and lungs with air. He also taught me how to equalize air underwater. After that, we went on the water to swim and snorkel. Soo that was pretty much it. By the way the girl on the photos is Juney, my dive buddy during the course.

What did i learn? (Sorry, I like answering my own questions) I learned how to relax, learned how to breathe properly, how to hold my breath and the right form when doing certain tricks underwater like duck diving. I can say relaxation is really important. Maybe that’s why Freediving is incorporated with yoga.

Soo there goes my first Freediving experience. Next time i’ll make sure i’ll have under water photos. Soo better stay tuned 😀

Have you tried freediving before?  How was it? Comment your thought on below
